The best of both worlds: Embracing innovation and tradition
Dubai’s American school (Nad Al Sheba) aims to be a leader in innovation, combining the traditional as well as the modern. To be the best American curriculum school in Dubai, we use innovative teaching strategies, advanced technology and forward-thinking approaches.
Both secular and religious education can be combined to enrich a child’s experience and knowledge of the world. Our school’s curriculum combines these traditional values and courses with the American curriculum. Stressing the need for innovation, we ensure students become proficient in STEM and supporting fields.
With the aim to be the best American curriculum school in Dubai, we use the American Common Core State Standards for English language arts, math, and the Next Generation Science Standards. We use hands-on, dynamic teaching strategies to shape the curriculum to the child's learning pace to allow them to excel.
But we also aim to preserve the Arabic heritage and Islamic values of the Emirates. Our students are introduced to a curriculum that promotes Islamic principles and values by including discussions of peace, moderation, and tolerance.
Islamic education is also on offer for all of our students who are taught the new curriculum, as prescribed by the Ministry’s Themes and Standards of the Islamic Education Curriculum’. They learn the divine revelations, rulings, values and debates of Islamic identity in the context of a contemporary, ever-complex society.
Students are taught Arabic by native speakers, following the MOE curriculum. Arabic is taught so that children are in touch with the cultural roots of the land and can then study the Holy Quran more efficiently. We stress the need for preserving language identity to counter the erasure of Arabic language and identity in the face of postmodern changes. Learning Arabic also benefits children by enhancing their cognitive reasoning.
We encourage the preservation and enhancement of Islamic identity and values by incorporating Islam into our program. We host our annual Quran memorization competition so that children learn understand the pillars of Islam and their importance in their education.
