Admission Policy

Welcome to the American School of Creative Science, Al Barsha, Dubai

Admissions to the American School of Creative Science will be conducted on a first come first served basis in a fair manner. Admission will also be based on entrance test for each grade and stage level. Due to high demands prospective students will also be required to undertake a CAT4 (Cognitive Ability Testing) test on a published date and location.

Admission procedures for new admissions

  • Complete the application form at the school.
  • Submit a copy of your child’s passport, copy of each parent’s Emirates ID & most recent school report or (To Whom IT May Concern) letter from your child’s current school.
  • Upon receipt of the application form, your son/daughter will be invited for an entrance exam and interview. KG1 and KG2 children will be invited to school with their parents for an informal interview.
  • Grade 1 to 8 students will be invited for computerized examination & interviews.
  • The Registration Department, along with the Senior Leadership Team, will test and evaluate applications made throughout the year on a case by case basis. Admissions will be based upon availability in the grade level school/term reports and entrance/CAT4 (Cognitive Ability) test results. All other registration and administrative requirements remain the same as other grade level and as listed above If your application is successful and your child is offered a place you will be notified by phone or e-mail and invited to come in to complete the rest of the admission formalities.

The following documentation will be required to secure a place for your child and must be received within one week of an offer of placement.

Admission documents

To facilitate the admission of your child with KHDA we require that you produce the following documents at the time of admission to accompany the completed application form.

  • Copy of your child’s most recent report card or ‘To Whom It May Concern’ letter from your child’s current school.
  • Copy of child’s, father’s & mother’s passport with valid residence visa (for expats).
  • Original child’s Emirates ID card & copy of it.
  • Copy of each parent’s Emirates ID.
  • Copy of child’s birth certificate.
  • Copy of Family Register (for UAE applicants only).
  • Copy of child’s vaccination certificate.
  • Two recent coloured photographs.
  • Attested original transfer certificate.
  • Attested original end of year school report.
  • A non-refundable admission fee of Dhs 1000 is required to be paid at the time of registration.

Transferring from another school or country

If the transfer certificate is issued in:

The UAE:

It should carry the stamp of the school, as well as the educational zone of the emirate certificate, is issued by. The school will retain the original transfer certificate.

GCC countries:

GCC citizens:

  • The transfer certificate & the report should carry the stamp of the school and be stamped by the KHDA. We will retain the original school report and the transfer certificate.

Non- GCC citizens:

  • The transfer certificate & the report should be stamped by the KHDA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of the UAE in that country. We will retain the original school report and the transfer certificate.

For any other country:

The transfer certificate should be stamped by the KHDA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of the UAE in that country. We will retain the original transfer certificate. In all cases, the school certificates and other documentation should be in either Arabic or English. If another language is used, it must be legally translated and authenticated as with other documentation.

Please Note: It is the responsibility of the parent to provide the documents listed above, including the copies of the Resident Visa. By completing and signing the registration form, the parent accepts this responsibility. The school will not be held responsible if the ministry refuses to register a child for any reason including missing documentation listed above.

Inclusion department admissions

The American School of Creative Science, Al Barsha believes in that each student has the right to learn. The school is committed to providing an appropriate and high-quality education to all the students. We believe that all students, including those who are identified as having special educational needs have a common entitlement to a broad and balanced academic and social curriculum, which is accessible to them. They have the right to be fully included in all aspects of school life enabling them to meet their full potential. The school is fully inclusive and is willing to enroll students with special educational needs and all the concerned persons do their best in order to accommodate the different needs of those students. All students admitted to the school are assessed and accepted once the school determines they are able to meet and provide for their emotional, behavioral, social and academic needs.

ASCS by promoting an inclusive ethos aims to support children by removing barriers to their inclusion whether for individual or groups of children and respond to a spectrum of diverse needs by setting suitable challenges that are best placed to bring out the full potential from our children.

We firmly believe that all children have an entitlement to be educated alongside their peers as much as possible and very few exceptions are made. As an inclusive school we are committed to developing inclusive cultures, policies and practices. We actively seek to remove the barriers to learning and participation that can hinder or exclude individual Students, or groups of Students by seeking the voices of all within the school community. We believe an effective school is an inclusive school.

The SENCO will review and determine the appropriate provision for the student, which may include additional costs to the parents/guardians, particularly where outside agency support is required. All conditions for specific intervention must be agreed to by the parents upon acceptance of the admission offer and put into place after admission. Should special educational needs be identified after admission, all offers are conditional upon acceptance of additional educational provision, outside agency involvement and associated costs deemed necessary by the school.

All students who are willing to join ASCS Al Barsha are subjected to a Cognitive Abilities Assessment [CAT] based on Stanford Benit Fifth Edition and/or CAT4 on their entry, Math Entry Exam, English Entry Exam & Science Entry Exam. Through the parent approval, the school authorized the psychologist and some members of the inclusion department to apply the above mentioned assessments which measure the following factors:

  • Fluid Reasoning [FR].
  • Quantitative Reasoning [QR].
  • Visual Spatial Processing [VS].
  • Knowledge [KN].
  • Auditory Discrimination Test [ADT].
  • Motor Skills [MS].
  • Working Memory [WM].
  • Student Academic Level.

Both of the parent and the student get the assessments results including the CAT results within 48 hours. The CAT results are analyzed and reviewed by the Inclusion Head of Department, School counselor & Special Education specialists through holding a meeting for a decision and whether the student shall go further with more specified assessments in the school to diagnose specific cases of learning disabilities such as:

  • Arithmetic Disorder (Dyscalculia).
  • Writing Disorder (Dysgraphia).
  • Reading Disorder (Dyslexia).
  • Spelling disorder (Dysorthographia).
  • Auditory processing disorder.
  • Visual Processing Disorder.
  • Sensory Integration / Processing Disorder.
  • Organizational Learning Disorder.
  • Social Cue Disorder.
  • Developmental Coordination Disorder (Dyspraxia).
  • The whole process of admitting a student with special educational needs and/or disabilities (Student of Determination) takes 3 working days as a maximum.

Special education program in ASCS Al Barsha

Based on the Inclusion Department’s decision and the Parents’ and Principal’s approval, the student with SEND is subjected to either a "Push In" program, "Pull Out" program or both of them. In the "Push In" program, the student with SEND gets the required support inside the mainstream classroom with his/her peers where the teacher uses the strategies that suit his/her type of disability in addition to the most suitable accommodations. In the "Pull Out" program, the student with SEND is being withdrawn from the mainstream classroom to receive individual support in the school resources room with a support teacher through one to one teaching approach. The second program is often used when the student with SEND has a full modified curriculum that is designed especially for him/her in order to suit the individual need(s) of the students of determination.

Parent role

The American School of Creative Science works hand in hand with the parent. The parent has to submit any records, reports … etc. related to the student before joining the school in order to help the concerned staff to provide high standard of provision for the student who is identified with special educational needs. If the student has a history and already diagnosed from an attested medical or psychological authority, then the student gets a code number. This code is to be given for the parent in order to access the school online system in order to follow up the academic progress reports, IEP, BIP and any related reports.

Acceptance of policies

Parents/guardians who accept places at ASCS agree to acceptance of all school rules, policies and expectations in force at the school, especially in regards to behavior, respect for others, attendance, use of school equipment, field trips and academic matters. Proven and intentional breaches of the school’s policies including behavior, anti-bullying and social media use may result in sanctions including suspension from the school.
