Why career counselling is so important for your child's future

The administration of the American School of Creative Science - Maliha Road believes in helping children find their true potential. As one of the best American curriculum schools in Sharjah, we do this by helping our students plan out appropriate career profiles. We keep an early focus on career counselling in order for students to determine their strengths, weaknesses, interests, and aptitude.

Regular career advice can help steer children towards a more focused approach to their education and can help their teachers tailor their learning requirements accordingly. They’ll gain perspectives on their abilities and allow them to make learning goal-oriented. Their education will serve a purpose for them, both holistically and as a career-basis. For example, if a child shows aptitude in art, they can be persuaded to learn about Da Vinci as well as algebra for graphic design software.

We also stress the importance of career counselling because professional advice can help children explore their options in an efficient, focused manner.

Career counselling, particularly before college, can help guide the student regarding the suitability of courses, future job requirements and opportunities. Counselling can aid the child in choosing extra-curricular activities, courses and colleges that may allow for the best success in their chosen field.

Counselling sessions use diverse tools, such as questionnaires and surveys to determine children’s particular aptitudes and help both parents and children learn about job market trends. It also provides a neutral place to explore a child’s desires and natural inclinations so that they can pursue a career path that they enjoy and has the potential for growth.

However, career counseling does require parents to be open to suggestions put forward in sessions because otherwise they may pressure children to follow career paths the parents have selected, rather than the child. Parents can help children explore their career options by speaking with them about possible jobs. Students ought to be encouraged to research and ask questions about different career paths. Counselling can help them find careers and determine their suitability; however, exposure to different jobs through conversation and experience can be just as important. For example, if a girl learns about female coding experts, she is more likely to feel encouraged to pursue a STEM career.
